As developments seem to have simmered slightly in Crimea I felt it was time for me to post my two cents worth on the subject. The capturing of Crimea is no doubt a crime and should not go unchecked. But more than anything I believe Crimea is a test and the Russian forces are the scare tactic to unnerve the people. I'm sure it is all working out as Russia planned too. Putin seems to be uninterested in public speaking yet his minds seems to be concerned with something. I feel that Crimea is the beginning of something more real and sinister to come. They say this act of capturing Crimea is going to be a big set back for Russia with International public relation (ya think) and that they will be unable to gain international support in the future. I think this means very little to Putin. But this does mean that Putin must have some sort of plan. He would not have made such a move unless it has been in the minds of his Russian government for some time. You have to know you want something in order to be so ready to obtain it when the first, I repeat FIRST, opportunity arises. The history of Russia and the Baltic countries is well known to most and contains much chaos and struggling for freedom. Mind you, Russia did none of the struggling for freedom. I support Ukraine in whatever they choose. And I support Crimea in whatever they choose. It is hard to say, though, if they will be allowed to make the chooses themselves.
The Republicans say Crimea is 'lost". I say to h@!! with that. For American Republican's to say such a thing is a travesty against our great country. Whether or not we should intervene yet, or at all, no American should be so brazen to dismiss the greatness that is our country and our ability to achieve any goal we set our minds too. We may never (as a country) intervene but that doesn't mean we couldn't. I don't pretend to know exactly what all the republicans are thinking, but I sure wish they would try a little harder to instill hope and strength in our country and not just disappointment and shame. I should have to turn on Russian or Iraqi news to hear so much shaming of America. Instead, if want to feel like we are one hole in the grave all you have to do is turn or the daily re-caps of what our nations top Republican leaders have to say.
Here is an interesting thought to end on.... Where is the UN? What is the UN quote unquote authorizing the worlds greatest nations to do. Russia is obviously wanting someone else to react now and I understand not over reacting, BUT, where are the official calls for Russia to remove troops? Where are the other country's men on the ground to show strength and ability? Where are the leaders of the world and why are you all letting Putin make us question your worth? I'm sure there is just nothing in Crimea and the Ukraine that they want or need, otherwise they would all be there. I do believe, though, that there is something there that Putin wants!

I agree with some of this, but I also think we should not get involved in places that their own neighbors won't get involved with. Crimea is ethnically Russian, the majority is likely to vote to join Russia. The rest of Ukraine is another story, and if it is threatened, we should be there. It wouldn't hurt to do a little mobilization of our own now.
Overall, I agree with you.
Thanks concerned for you comment! I am always interested in another persons views. Generally though, I think we feel the same on this subject.
